We’re only a few months into our partnership with Carma, and it already feels like we’re making a real difference. So, we thought it was the perfect moment to take stock and celebrate the progress so far.
And guess what? We’re off to a cracking start.
🌳 482 trees funded so far
Here’s how that breaks down:
- 82 trees dedicated to our brilliant Nétive VMS team
- 400 trees planted in honour of our wonderful customers
To put it another way, that’s 482 little green powerhouses working hard to clean the air, restore ecosystems and leave the planet in better shape than they found it. Not bad for a few months’ work!
Where are these trees being planted?
Carma run planting projects across the UK and around the world, including Africa, Brazil and the USA. Each location is chosen with purpose, especially in regions that have been hit hardest by deforestation and rapid urban growth. Planting in these areas helps rebuild damaged ecosystems and boost biodiversity where it’s needed most.
Here in the UK, the focus is on native species such as: oak, beech, birch, ash and willow.
These trees are selected because they naturally belong in the local environment and support a wide range of wildlife.
Choosing the right tree for the right place
Before any planting happens, Carma carry out a biodiversity survey to understand the landscape. They consider soil quality, available water, sunlight and the local ecosystem to make sure each tree stands the best chance of thriving. It’s a bit like matchmaking, but for forests.
Why some trees take longer to go into the ground
So far, 200 of our funded trees have already been planted, with the remaining ones lined up for the next suitable planting window.
There’s always a short delay between funding and planting, simply because timing is everything. Planting too early, too late or in extreme weather can dramatically reduce the young trees’ chance of survival.
- In the UK, planting takes place between October and March.
- In warmer climates like Africa and Brazil, planting only happens outside the hottest, driest periods.
It means being patient, but for the right reasons. Planting at the perfect moment gives every tree the best shot at growing strong and sticking around for generations.
B Corp Certified
B Lab is the non-profit network transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet (because there is no “Planet B”). In August 2023, Carma was awarded B Corp status with an overall B Impact Score of 127.9 (a score of 80 qualifies for B Corp Certification). It’s one of the many reasons we’re proud to partner with them. You can read about their B Corp scoring in more detail here.
What’s next?
We’re only just getting started. As more trees are planted through the upcoming seasons, we’ll continue to share updates so you can follow the impact we’re creating together.
And if you’d like to see our progress in real time, you can track every tree we fund and plant through our impact map.
